On Saturday, May 27th as part of Trinity College’s Spring Reunion festivities, Graham Library launched a new exhibit, Shakespeare at Trinity, with a tour for visiting alumni led by exhibit curators Kate MacDonald, Cataloguing & Digital Services Librarian, and Sylvia Lassam, Trinity College Archivist. Shakespeare at Trinity explores the historical and current significance of Shakespeare’s work to the Trinity College community through three main themes: Shakespeare & Publishing, Shakespeare & Scholarship, and Shakespeare & Performance.

The exhibit incorporates a number of rare & special collections books from Graham Library’s collections, including a copy of Timon of Athens believed to be a fragment of a 1623 First Folio, as well as a number of fine press Shakespeare editions. Material from the Trinity College Archives collection highlights the contributions of individual Trinity community members and includes papers by the Reverend Canon Robert Gordon Sutherland and affiliated Trinity scholars G. Wilson Knight, Jill Levenson, Brian Parker, and Sheldon Zitner. From Trinity’s dramatic history, the exhibit showcases material and artifacts from the Earle Grey Players, the founders of the first Shakespearean theatrical festival in Canada, and also the long-running student-led Trinity College Dramatic Society, which produces the annual event Shakespeare in the Quad.

The exhibit will run for the Summer and Fall of 2016 in Graham Library, on the lower level floor in the exhibit cases of the Saunderson Rare Books Room. More information about future tours of the exhibit will be shared at a later date.
